The Pageboy Bob Is Back – But This Time, It’s Softer, Shorter and Made for Summer

Every summer has its signature haircut, and in 2025, we’re seeing a playful shift: say hello to the modern pageboy bob. A fresh take on a classic, this style is all about soft layers, a rounded shape, and that light, airy feeling that makes it perfect for warmer days.

First popularised in the 1960s by cultural icons like Princess Diana and members of The Beatles, the original pageboy bob was defined by its ear-to-shoulder length, turned-under ends, and a bold fringe. Its name dates all the way back to medieval England, inspired by the bowl-cut style once worn by young pageboys at court. Thankfully, the modern revival is a far cry from its blunt beginnings.

Today’s Pageboy Is More Wearable Than Ever

According to stylist Elliot Bute at cult London salon Hershesons, today’s version brings a “versatile, wearable twist” to the once-rigid shape. “It keeps that signature rounded silhouette, but introduces light layering and variation in length,” he explains. The result? A chic, low-maintenance cut that still makes a statement.

Whether you go for a sharp chin-length bob or a softer shoulder-skimming style, the updated pageboy allows room to play. Swap out the heavy fringe for something breezier – think curtain bangs, wavy ends, or even a sweeping side fringe to frame the face.

Celebrities Are Embracing the Cut

It’s no surprise the cut is quickly earning a celebrity following. Style-setters like Taylor Hill, Sabrina Elba, Zoey Deutch, and Nicole Kidman have all been spotted sporting some version of the updated pageboy – each adding their own modern twist.

And with summer heating up, the practical appeal is clear too. This shorter cut offers that blissful breeze-at-the-nape feeling – perfect for city commutes, garden parties, or beach breaks.

How to Style the Modern Pageboy

To bring it to life, Elliot recommends embracing movement: “Use a mousse or texturising spray to create either a softly tousled or ultra-sleek finish. It’s a cut that works with your hair’s natural texture, so it shouldn’t feel like a chore to style.”

The key to nailing this trend? Keep it simple, light, and fuss-free. After all, the best kind of summer beauty is the kind that looks like it took no time at all.
