Nikki Beach Koh Samui Review: Laid-Back Luxury With a Party Pulse

On arrival at Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Koh Samui, a DJ is playing Ibiza-style dance tracks beside the pool, accompanied by the gentle rhythm of live bongo drums.

Draped in a kaftan, I settle onto an enormous double sunbed, order a non-alcoholic cocktail and lie back with a book. The music creates a subtle buzz without overwhelming the setting, immediately establishing the resort’s balance between laid-back relaxation and beach-club energy.

Located on the peaceful western coast of Koh Samui, Nikki Beach Resort & Spa sits directly on Lipa Noi Beach and offers two very different poolside experiences.

The pool beside the bar has a stylish, sociable atmosphere, while a separate 75-metre pool provides a quieter alternative for guests who want to swim lengths or spend the afternoon away from the music.

Most guests appear to be in their 20s and 30s, and the Beach Club pool area is reserved for adults. Families are still well catered for, however, with a Kids Club open daily.

It is worth noting that the prime beach-club sunbeds require a minimum spend of 2,500 Thai baht at weekends, approximately £57 at the time of writing. Each can accommodate up to four people, while complimentary sunbeds are available nearby overlooking the beach.

A Private Bungalow by the Beach

My private bungalow provides a sanctuary of understated luxury just moments from the livelier pool area.

A large urn of water and a ladle sit beside the entrance, allowing guests to rinse the sand from their feet before stepping inside. It is a small but thoughtful touch that reflects the Thai custom of removing dirt before entering a home or private space.

Inside, the bungalow feels spacious yet inviting. A generously stocked minibar is hidden within a wooden cabinet, while a large flat-screen television and a long row of wardrobes make the room well suited to a longer stay.

The bathroom includes twin sinks, a spacious shower and a selection of luxurious products.

Travelling alone, I feel completely safe and at ease throughout my stay. The reception team is warm, attentive and full of useful local recommendations.

On their advice, I take a taxi to Nathon Night Food Market, where stalls offer street food, artisan products, local jewellery, clothing and beauty items. It provides a lively contrast to the tranquillity of the resort and is well worth visiting for an evening.

Yoga, Paddleboarding and Sunset Rituals

There is plenty to do without leaving Nikki Beach.

A daily activity board advertises complimentary sessions including Pilates, yoga, stretching and paddleboarding. Ice baths and tie-dye workshops are also available for an additional charge.

The resort’s position on Lipa Noi Beach is one of its greatest strengths. The western-facing shoreline is known for its sunsets, and watching the sky turn pink above the water becomes one of the highlights of my stay.

After dark, fairy lights illuminate the resort, creating a softer and almost magical atmosphere.

A Breakfast Buffet Worth Waking Up For

The extensive breakfast buffet is another standout.

Tables are filled with bowls of fresh tropical fruit, including mango, dragon fruit, passion fruit, watermelon and pineapple, alongside a wide selection of hot dishes, pastries and lighter options.

The homemade smoothies are particularly memorable.

The Frozen Monkey combines banana, almond milk and peanut butter, while the Island Vibe blends mango, passion fruit, palm sugar, cucumber and fresh mint.

They are exactly the kind of drinks you imagine enjoying beside a pool in Thailand and reason enough not to sleep through breakfast.

Traditional Thai Wellness

The on-site spa offers a menu of treatments influenced by traditional Thai healing practices.

The Thai Herbal Compress Massage uses warmed bundles of herbs including lemongrass, turmeric and kaffir lime, designed to soothe tired muscles and support circulation.

The Coconut and Jasmine Facial Ritual is another appealing option. Locally sourced coconut oil is used to hydrate and nourish the skin, while the delicate fragrance of Thai jasmine creates an immediate sense of calm.

Together with the resort’s yoga, movement classes and beachside setting, the spa adds a restorative dimension to a property often associated primarily with its social atmosphere.

The Verdict

Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Koh Samui manages to feel convivial yet calming, indulgent yet unpretentious.

Guests can spend the afternoon beside a DJ-led pool, retreat to a peaceful bungalow, swim lengths, practise yoga or watch the sun disappear over Lipa Noi Beach.

It offers enough energy to feel exciting without sacrificing the tranquillity expected from a luxury island escape.

I leave feeling revitalised and quietly exhilarated — the perfect balance.

Those spending an evening in Bangkok before travelling to Koh Samui can experience the city from the Chao Phraya River aboard Banyan Tree Bangkok’s Saffron Dinner Cruise.

The three-hour journey takes place on a two-storey boat, combining views of the capital’s illuminated landmarks with a four-course Thai dinner.
