Filming Locations

Atrani

Atrani on the Amalfi Coast appears as picturesque as depicted. Marge and Dickie reside here while writing and painting. Though the dreamy Villa Torricella, shown as their home, is actually located on Capri, not Atrani. This grand villa boasts a large garden filled with palm and pine trees.

Naples

While the old Garibaldi Station in the film no longer exists, Naples served as a stand-in for various Italian locations. The exterior of Tom’s Palermo hotel is actually the historic Palazzo Sanfelice in Naples, renowned for its Baroque architecture. Dickie and Tom view Caravaggio's work at Pio Monte della Misericordia in Naples.

Palermo

Tom’s obsession with Caravaggio leads him to the Oratory of San Lorenzo in Palermo, where filming took place. The chapel once housed Caravaggio’s “Nativity” altarpiece, now replaced by a high-quality copy after its theft in the 1960s.

Rome

The Grand Hotel Plaza in Rome epitomizes the excessive aesthetics of the era. Ripley visits iconic sites like the Spanish Steps and Palazzo dei Congressi.

Venice

Known as Palazzo Contarini Polignac, this early Renaissance building features soaring ceilings, chandeliers, and art galleries. Although currently unavailable for stays, it remains an impressive setting in the film. Tom also visits Piazza San Marco, home to St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, Museo Correr, Campanile, and Torre dell’Orologio.
