Chopard’s New £39,000 Happy Diamonds Watch Lets 21 Diamonds Do the Dancing

There are watches designed to make you study their hands, and watches that offer a more entertaining distraction. Chopard’s new Happy Diamonds Heritage belongs firmly to the latter: a black-and-gold timepiece in which 21 diamonds are free to move as the wrist turns.

The release forms part of the Swiss house’s 50th-anniversary celebrations for Happy Diamonds. Its attraction is refreshingly easy to understand. Against dark onyx, the stones become the moving centre of attention, introducing a little unpredictability into an object otherwise devoted to precision.

A 1970s idea, revisited

Happy Diamonds began in 1976. As Forbes recounts, designer Ronald Kurowski found inspiration in the light catching a waterfall in Germany’s Black Forest. The resulting idea allowed diamonds to move between transparent surfaces, rather than remain fixed in a conventional decorative arrangement.

The anniversary draws on that history with Heritage watches and jewellery, alongside a campaign starring Bella Hadid and Liu Wen. It also revisits Happy Sport, the separate collection introduced in 1993 that brought moving diamonds into a sportier setting.

Inside the Happy Diamonds Heritage 34mm

The 34mm Heritage model pairs a cushion-shaped case in 18-carat ethical yellow gold with black onyx. Its diamonds move between two sapphire crystals; the dial is kept deliberately simple, displaying hours and minutes.

Inside is Chopard’s hand-wound 10.01-C movement, with an approximately 45-hour power reserve. The case measures 8.53mm thick and has a transparent sapphire back. Chopard describes the design as unisex.

That compact format is part of the appeal. Rather than relying on an oversized case to command attention, the watch makes its point through the contrast of colour, shape and movement. The gold frame gives it a distinctly jewellery-like presence, while the mechanical calibre supplies a different reason to turn it over.

UK price and availability

Chopard’s UK listing prices reference 202299-0001 at £39,000 as checked on 16 September 2026. The brand invites customers to register interest and describes availability as very limited; prospective buyers should confirm stock directly.

For an anniversary piece, it is an effective return to the original proposition. Fifty years on, Happy Diamonds still offers something wonderfully uncomplicated: a watch that makes looking at the time a small pleasure.
