Beauty Experts Reveal Blake Lively's 6-Step Hair Routine

This month, Blake Lively announced the release of her beauty brand, Blake Brown, which focuses solely on hair care.

The brand offers a selection of daily shampoos, hair masks, and styling products—all aimed at strengthening and nourishing the hair. Since debuting on August 4th, the brand has become the biggest hair care launch at Target on record and has already sold out online.

One reason fans are so eager to get their hands on the star’s product is that Blake Brown reveals how Blake Lively maintains such healthy-looking and luscious hair.

The brand’s release perfectly aligns with Blake’s recent appearance in It Ends With Us—the anticipated adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel.

In light of the recent release of Blake’s beauty brand, experts at Roxy Hair, a website specializing in luxurious hair extensions, have created a six-step guide on how to replicate the star’s sought-after hair care routine.

1. It all starts with a good shampoo (or two)

In a recent interview with British Vogue, Blake Lively revealed that the secret to maintaining such healthy-looking hair is switching between two sets of shampoos—one for moisture and the other for strengthening.

The star revealed that she alternates her shampoo between each wash, giving her hair the best of both worlds—a principle that her new beauty brand enforces. Blake revealed to Vogue that she discovered the trick after suffering from damaged hair during her first acting job.

Hydration is essential for maintaining healthy hair, as it prevents it from becoming split and damaged. However, over-hydrating your hair is also a risk, which can result in it becoming brittle, tangled, and frizzy—particularly during warmer weather. Because of this, it’s important to take Blake’s trick into consideration and incorporate a strengthening shampoo into your hair care routine.

Strengthening hair products protect your scalp and hair follicles, reducing the risk of damage and noticeable breakage. Alternating between strengthening and hydrating shampoos is a fantastic hair care tip, as this provides your hair with the moisture and strength it needs to promote growth, leaving you with healthy-looking hair.

2. Experiment with double shampooing

Double shampooing has become a viral trend on social media, in which people apply two loads of shampoo before rinsing as usual. While speaking to British Vogue, the It Ends With Us star revealed that she occasionally applies shampoo twice during one wash if she’s wearing a lot of hair product at the time.

The first wash is intended to break down any stubborn impurities, while the second wash ensures that these are thoroughly washed away. This technique is fantastic for cleansing the scalp, which prevents the risk of dandruff. Double shampooing can also keep your hair fresher for longer, extending the time between washes.

However, if overused, this method can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving you with dry and irritated scalp. Because of this, like Blake, it’s important to only use this technique occasionally.

3. Try out a hair mask

In the interview with British Vogue, Blake also revealed that she regularly uses a hair mask after each wash. Hair masks are an effective way to boost your hair’s hydration, meaning they should be an essential part of your hair care routine.

The products contain restorative ingredients and should be applied directly after shampooing for maximum benefits. When using your hair mask, generously apply the product from the roots to the tips and focus on gently massaging it into your scalp. Once applied, leave the hair mask on for about 3-5 minutes before rinsing as usual.

For visibly dehydrated and damaged hair, you can leave this product on for around 10-15 minutes. However, do not leave a hair mask on overnight, as this can leave you with greasy-looking hair the next day.

While Blake revealed that she uses a hair mask after every wash, it’s generally advised to use this product about once a week during the warmer weather to prevent over-hydrating your hair.

Hair masks are also excellent for strengthening the hair, which reduces the appearance of frizz and prevents split ends. Because of this, it’s worth trying out this product during your next hair wash day if it’s not already part of your routine.

4. Leave the conditioner behind

Blake also told British Vogue that she doesn’t use conditioner on hair wash days, stating: “I don’t know anyone who uses conditioner in my industry.” Instead, the star substitutes this product with a hydrating hair mask.

Conditioners are hugely effective for hydrating your hair, but the product also comes with the risk of over-hydration. It has often been voiced that conditioners can result in oily-looking hair, which is why it’s becoming increasingly common for people to leave these products behind.

If you do use conditioner in your hair care routine, it’s essential not to apply this product directly to your scalp. Otherwise, this can leave you with flat and damaged hair. For increased volume, it’s better to apply a small amount of conditioner to only the ends of your hair.

5. Ditch the heated styling tools

When it comes to styling, embracing your natural hair is often healthier. Blake Lively has frequently been praised for her natural beach waves, which have since become a sought-after style.

Using heat appliances regularly on your hair can result in a high amount of breakage, including split ends and a loss of natural moisture, making hair look damaged and exceptionally dry. Because of this, it’s incredibly beneficial to wear your hair naturally.

Letting your hair air dry naturally on occasion is a fantastic way to let your hair breathe, reducing the risk of dandruff and damage. The less you use heated appliances, the healthier your hair will be.

If you use heated styling tools regularly, it’s essential to always ensure that you wear heat protection. Alternatively, why not try out some heatless styling tools, such as the viral heatless curls headband?

6. Ensure that you’re caring for colour-treated hair

As an actor, Blake is expected to dye her hair for roles regularly. In her role as Lily Bloom in It Ends With Us, the star sports copper-red hair—a look that fans have embraced.

Keeping hair hydrated is one of the most essential ways to care for colour-treated hair, so ensure that you regularly use hair masks to keep your hair nourished.

When dyeing your hair, your ends are at the most risk, so it’s important to trim them regularly to promote healthy hair growth. Blake has previously reiterated the importance of frequently getting your hair cut, explaining that doing so prevents the risk of brittle-looking hair.
