When Jean Schlumberger first crafted a diamond-encrusted bird poised atop a cabochon lapis lazuli for Bunny Mellon in 1965, he likely saw it as a singular masterpiece. Yet his playful creation, later known as the Bird on a Rock, captured the imagination of society’s most glamorous women, inspiring countless bespoke versions set on stones from aquamarine to morganite.

Fast-forward six decades, and this iconic bird has soared far beyond its origins. Once the preserve of high jewellery collectors and elite socialites, it has found new life as a red-carpet statement for Hollywood’s most stylish men. Its contemporary appeal even inspired a full collection in 2023—featuring necklaces, rings, pendants, and earrings—ushering in a new era for one of Tiffany’s most enduring symbols.

Now, Tiffany & Co. unveils Wings, a captivating evolution of the design that celebrates freedom, grace, and motion. Under the creative direction of Nathalie Verdeille, the bird’s once-folded wings have been lifted into flight—transforming Schlumberger’s original muse into a dynamic emblem of elegance.

The collection spans both fine and high jewellery, with two exceptional suites in turquoise and tanzanite taking centre stage. The tanzanite suite, in particular, unites two of Tiffany’s greatest icons: the legendary bird and the vivid blue gemstone the house helped introduce to the world in the late 1960s. Featuring tanzanites between 8 and 12 carats, each piece, whether necklace, bracelet, or earring, is meticulously crafted in platinum and 18-karat yellow gold, accented with rubies and diamonds for a dazzling interplay of colour and light.

More than a revival, Wings represents a rebirth—proof that Tiffany & Co.’s timeless artistry continues to evolve, just like the bird that first inspired it.
