When friends ask me for some advice on where to go to eat in Milan (where I was born) or in London (where I lived for 4 years), I always show my best cards.
The restaurants I tried, the ones friends introduced me to, the historic ones. Now I have 5 more to add to the list of ones I want to try.
Every year, in Las Vegas, haute cuisine is celebrated with “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants”, an event sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, which declared Disfrutar restaurant in Barcelona as The World’s Best Restaurant and The Best Restaurant in Europe.
The award ceremony, held at the Wynn Las Vegas, honoured the best culinary talents from 26 countries across five continents.
The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 ranking is voted on by 1,080 international restaurant industry experts and travelling gourmet experts who make up The World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy. With an equal representation of women and men, the Academy includes 27 different regions around the world, each of which has 40 members including an Academy Chair.
Disfrutar, the Barcelona restaurant managed by the trio of chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casañas, was named The World’s Best Restaurant 2024.
At No. 2 in the 2023 ranking, Disfrutar is known for its innovative techniques and the excellence of its ingredients, which result in an experience that unexpectedly upends the traditional standards of fine dining.
The tasting menu is characterized by a Mediterranean identity into which cutting-edge flavours are woven to offer contemporary and bold cuisine that is capable of surprising. In the ranking, Disfrutar is followed on the podium by Asador Etxebarri (No. 2) in Atxondo and Table by Bruno Verjus (No. 3) in Paris.

3. Table by Bruno Verjus, Paris

4. DiverXo, Madrid
At number four, DiverXo is famed for its theatrical and boundary-pushing cuisine. Chef Dabiz Muñoz’s inventive fusion of Spanish and global flavours creates a dining experience that is both visually stunning and gustatorily exciting (Home).
5. Maido, Lima
Rounding out the top five is Maido, a Peruvian restaurant that seamlessly blends Japanese and Peruvian culinary traditions. Chef Mitsuharu Tsumura's Nikkei cuisine continues to impress with its bold flavours and innovative techniques (Time Out Worldwide).
