Range Rover has finally entered the fully electric era, and it has done so without abandoning the qualities that made the original luxury SUV an icon. The new Range Rover Electric pairs near-silent performance with unmistakable design, genuine off-road ability and the most torque ever offered in a Range Rover.
Built in Solihull and available to order in the UK now, the battery-powered flagship delivers up to 372 miles of WLTP range, 550PS and rapid charging from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes. It is not intended to look like a science experiment. This is recognisably a Range Rover first—only calmer, quicker to respond and powered entirely by electricity.

A Landmark For Britain’s Original Luxury SUV
The arrival of the Range Rover Electric is one of the most significant changes in the model’s history. Range Rover has been built at Solihull since 1970, evolving from a capable country vehicle into a global symbol of discreet luxury. Electric propulsion now adds a new layer of refinement to that familiar formula.
Rather than creating a separate electric sub-brand, Range Rover has integrated the new powertrain into the existing flagship architecture. Electric, plug-in hybrid, mild-hybrid and combustion models can therefore be manufactured around the same core vehicle. For buyers, that means the electric version retains the proportions, seating options and sense of occasion associated with the current-generation Range Rover.

Familiar Design, Sharpened By Aerodynamics
Visually, the Range Rover Electric is deliberately understated. Its upright stance, floating roof, precise body sides and split tailgate remain intact. The changes are concentrated in areas where airflow matters: a smoother grille, aerodynamically optimised wheels and a tailored underbody help improve efficiency at motorway speeds.
That restraint feels appropriate. Many electric cars announce their technology through dramatic styling, but Range Rover’s design has always been most convincing when it is reduced to a few confident lines. The electric model preserves that identity rather than chasing novelty.
Electric Power Without Losing Range Rover Character
Twin permanent-magnet electric motors—one on each axle—produce a combined 550PS, equivalent to approximately 542bhp, and 850Nm of torque. Each motor is rated at 260kW, giving the Range Rover Electric immediate four-wheel-drive response and more torque than any previous production Range Rover.
Despite its size and substantial battery, the electric SUV can accelerate from 0-60mph in as little as 4.3 seconds. More relevant in everyday driving is the effortless mid-range performance: the 50-75mph sprint takes as little as 2.7 seconds, promising the kind of unhurried overtaking ability that suits a luxury flagship.
Electric propulsion should also amplify one of Range Rover’s defining qualities. With less mechanical noise and vibration entering the cabin, occupants gain an even stronger sense of isolation from the outside world. Speed is present, but silence may be the greater luxury.
Range And Rapid Charging
A usable 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery sits beneath the cabin. Range Rover quotes up to 372 miles under the WLTP test cycle and estimates up to 333 miles in real-world driving. As with every electric vehicle, the final figure will depend on temperature, speed, terrain, wheel choice and use of climate control.
The 800-volt electrical architecture supports rapid DC charging at up to 350kW. Under suitable conditions, a 10-to-80 per cent charge takes 22 minutes, while 10 minutes at the maximum charging rate can add as much as 137 miles of WLTP range.
UK and European owners can access more than one million public charge points through the wider charging network. The Range Rover app can also display predicted range, schedule charging and pre-condition the cabin, allowing drivers to take advantage of lower domestic electricity tariffs.
Still A Proper Range Rover
Electrification has not diluted the brand’s all-terrain ambitions. The Range Rover Electric can wade through water up to 900mm deep and tackle rolling climbs of up to 45 degrees. A new Single Pedal driving mode is designed to provide fine control on steep or slippery ground, reducing the need to move repeatedly between accelerator and brake.
Its Integrated Traction Management system can adjust motor speed in as little as 50 milliseconds—around 100 times faster than a comparable combustion-engine system. Intelligent Driveline Dynamics can also vary the torque sent to the rear axle from 100 per cent to zero to help prevent a loss of traction.
The lower centre of gravity created by the battery works with twin-chamber air suspension to manage the Range Rover’s considerable mass. The aim is not to turn it into a sports car, but to preserve the composed, imperious character owners expect on motorways, broken roads and remote tracks alike.

A Cabin Designed For Quiet Luxury
Inside, the familiar Range Rover architecture continues with expansive seating, clean horizontal surfaces and a deliberately calm atmosphere. Buyers can choose short- or long-wheelbase configurations, with specifications including SE, HSE, Autobiography, SV, SV Ultra and SV Black.
A curated First Edition is also available in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black or Varesine Blue. Its interior introduces Light Cloud Ultrafabrics polyurethane upholstery alongside Kvadrat textiles, giving customers an alternative to conventional leather without losing the tactile quality expected at this level.
For something more individual, Range Rover’s Bespoke service offers an extensive palette of paint finishes, materials, colour combinations and personalised details. The electric powertrain may be new, but the opportunity to commission a highly personal flagship remains central to the experience.
Tested From Arctic Cold To Desert Heat
Range Rover says the electric model has completed more than 1.5 million kilometres of development driving, supported by over 250,000 hours of physical and virtual testing. Prototypes have operated at -40°C in Sweden, in the heat of the Dubai desert and across the demanding terrain around Eastnor Castle in the UK.
More than 300 patent applications have been filed for the project. Among the key technologies is ThermAssist, a heat-management system designed to protect charging performance, battery longevity and driving range in extreme temperatures. Range Rover says it can add up to 25 miles of range while reducing the energy required for heating by as much as 40 per cent.
The battery is protected by a high-strength aluminium enclosure and carries an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty. A digital twin monitors more than 900 diagnostic data points, allowing potential issues to be identified and managed alongside over-the-air software updates.

Order books for the Range Rover Electric are open now, with UK prices starting from £154,070 on the road. Both short- and long-wheelbase versions are offered, while the extensive trim range means final prices can rise considerably once SV specifications and Bespoke options are added.
Production takes place in Solihull, where 9,000 manufacturing employees have been trained for electrification. Battery packs and electric drive units are supported by JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, anchoring the new flagship firmly in the West Midlands.

For owners who already appreciate the current Range Rover, the electric model offers a compelling progression rather than a reinvention. Its range is competitive for a large luxury SUV, the charging hardware is genuinely fast and the performance should feel effortless rather than theatrical.
The more important achievement is continuity. Range Rover has preserved the vehicle’s elegant design, exceptional cabin comfort and serious all-terrain ability while making the powertrain quieter and more responsive. That makes the Electric feel less like a compromise and more like a natural expression of what the brand has always tried to achieve.
The Final Word
The Range Rover Electric does not need to shout about being new. Its confidence comes from making radical engineering feel almost invisible. Beneath the familiar silhouette is an 800-volt platform, a vast battery, rapid-charging capability and one of the fastest-reacting traction systems the marque has developed.
