Hidden deep within the rolling wilderness of British Columbia lies Siwash Lake Wilderness Resort & Ranch, a sanctuary where horses roam free, time slows, and nature leads the rhythm of life.

There’s no fanfare here, just untamed beauty, quiet strength, and a palpable sense of renewal. At its heart is Allyson Rogers, a fourth-generation rancher and the woman who has devoted more than three decades to nurturing this extraordinary land.

When a devastating wildfire tore through the region in 2017, one of the most extreme in Canadian history, Rogers made the decision to stay. It wasn’t an act of defiance, but one of instinct. With evacuation routes closing and her herd of horses unwilling to leave the only home they’d ever known, she led them to their favourite pasture by the lake and waited as the flames drew near. Every horse survived. And from that moment of chaos and courage, a new chapter began.

Today, Siwash Lake has been reborn as a luxury wilderness retreat rooted in regeneration, resilience, and deep connection. Guests arrive seeking adventure, horseback rides through sweeping valleys, hikes across fire-sculpted forests, nights beneath a sky unspoiled by light, but they leave with something far deeper: a renewed relationship with themselves and the natural world.

“For us, it’s never been about consumption, it’s about stewardship,” Allyson explains. “We see humans as caretakers of nature, not conquerors. That philosophy extends to our horses too. They’re not just animals here; they’re family.”

Synergy™ with Horses

Siwash’s signature Synergy™ with Horses programme lies at the core of this philosophy. It’s not about perfecting technique or performance, it’s about cultivating intuition, trust, and presence.

“Guests learn to connect with horses on a deeply personal level,” says Allyson. “Our horses live freely on the land all year, so they’re grounded, intuitive, and emotionally attuned. People leave calmer, more confident, and more connected, not just to the horse, but to themselves.”

Each guest is carefully paired with a horse that mirrors their energy and temperament. “It’s less about skill level,” she adds, “and more about energy alignment and mutual trust.”

Rising from the Ashes

The wildfire that once threatened to destroy Siwash has now become part of its story. The ranch’s Fire Ecology Walk takes guests through the rejuvenating forest, where fireweed blooms, aspen groves whisper in the breeze, and new life has reclaimed blackened soil.

“Fireweed was the first to come back,” Allyson recalls. “Then wild roses, berry bushes, and aspen. Now, we’re seeing moose, deer, river otters, frogs, even western painted turtles. The land is healing before our eyes, and it’s incredible to witness.”

This immersive walk is guided by those who lived through the fire, offering rare insight into the balance between destruction and rebirth. “You’re walking through a living story of resilience,” she says. “In places, waterfalls feed sapphire crater lakes, and the silence is profound.”

Star Camp™ and the Power of Stillness

Out of the ashes, too, came Star Camp™, Siwash’s breathtaking glamping experience. Perched on a ridge beneath a vast, unfiltered sky, the canvas tents feature retractable skylights, wood-burning stoves, private hot tubs, and SkyMaster Pro binoculars for stargazing.

“When the canopy was gone, we suddenly had this uninterrupted 360-degree view of the heavens,” Allyson says. “We leaned into that, creating a space where guests can lie under the stars in total stillness. At night, you hear frogs, owls, and the sway of trees, nothing else. It’s humbling.”

Rugged Luxury, Wild Serenity

Days at Siwash follow a natural rhythm. Mornings begin with yoga on the deck or a quiet coffee overlooking the lake. Afternoons invite forest bathing, wild swimming, or intimate trail rides through untouched terrain. Evenings are spent around the firepit or at Star Camp, watching the Milky Way rise in silence.

This is “rugged luxury”, where the comforts are refined, but the soul of the experience remains rooted in authenticity. “The land shapes everything we do,” Allyson says. “Luxury here isn’t about excess; it’s about connection, to yourself, to others, and to the wild.”

The ranch’s next evolution arrives in 2026, with a multi-day backcountry route designed to immerse guests even deeper into the wilderness. The journey will blend horseback exploration with forest bathing, yoga, and nights spent beneath the stars at Star Camp.

“With the forest canopy gone, the night skies are just extraordinary,” says Allyson. “This new route will be our most transformative experience yet.”

At its core, Siwash Lake is a story of renewal, of nature’s resilience and humanity’s place within it. Guests often say they feel changed after their stay, and Allyson believes that’s no coincidence.

“We live in such a fast-paced, digital world. At Siwash Lake, you’re unplugged. You bond with a horse. You move through landscapes that have survived fire and found new life. It’s deeply grounding. People remember who they were when they’re here.”
